It is one thing to find a brand that makes a great product. It is another to find one that aligns with you and the life you want for your family. That’s why Heart & Soil is my first Ladenbod Favorites post. As I mentioned above, I am not sponsored by Heart & Soil. This is just my honest review of a product that I love and want to share with you.
A Little About My Journey
I started my health journey like many do, focusing on how much I ate and how much I exercised. Growing up, I definitely ate the standard American diet, coming in at 205 pounds at 13 years old. If you had asked me to eat liver – which my dad did – I would have looked at you like you were crazy and said, “no way.”
It wasn’t until I entered high school that I realized I wanted to make a change. And believe it or not, my “why” was because I wanted to be able to keep up with my future kids. As a mom of 3 kids under 3, I thank my young self daily for my forward thinking.
Throughout high school and college, I definitely struggled with over exercising and under eating, something that I didn’t even realize was an issue at the time. But even once I started keeping track of what I was eating, I wasn’t focusing on the quality of my food. I was too focused on the number of calories to pay attention to the weird add-ins on the ingredients list. It wasn’t until I became pregnant that I really started checking the labels on what I was buying.
Since then, I have been heavily focused on cutting out processed food and relying on whole foods. And now, my family predominantly consumes grass-fed and grass-finished beef, raw milk, raw cheese and butter, farm fresh soy- and corn-free eggs, and organic fruit.
Up until a few years ago, I hadn’t heard about organ supplements. My midwife recommended beef organ supplements to help with a low platelet count during my pregnancy. Once I started taking them, I immediately noticed an increase in energy. And despite approaching 40-plus weeks pregnant, I felt really good. Since then, I have taken beef organ supplements for all of my pregnancies.
Who is Heart and Soil?
Heart & Soil is a supplement company started four years ago by Dr. Paul Saladino. He is a board-certified physician and nutrition specialist, who wants to help more people benefit from the nutritional powerhouse of beef organs in an easy and convenient way. Beef organs are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Beef liver specifically is extremely rich in all natural vitamins and minerals. Just 1 ounce of beef liver a day can have a tremendous impact on your health.
Heart and Soil makes it easy to add organs to your diet. Their supplements are sourced from New Zealand cattle that are 100% regeneratively raised, grass fed and finished. They are free from antibiotics, vaccines, and any other fillers. And Heart and Soil recently released their first ever 100% American supplement, Pure American Liver.
One of the many things I love about their supplements is that they are real food! And because they are real food, the nutrients are in their most bioavailable forms, meaning your body can absorb everything. I actually didn’t know this, but there are studies that show that synthetic vitamins may not be as effective as you think, and could potentially be doing more harm than good.
But here’s the thing, and I mentioned it at the beginning of my post: Heart & Soil isn’t just a supplement company. They are a company that I have found truly aligns with what I want for my family. They are working hard to change the way we all think about our diets and our health as a whole. At Heart & Soil, they are big proponents of an animal based way of eating. And if you are not familiar with this, I highly encourage you to check it out.
Not My First Experience with Organ Supplements
During my first two pregnancies, I took a different brand’s beef organ supplement, and with my third, I took one that was geared specifically towards blood and circulation improvement. Both supplements worked, but the blood-focused one worked extremely well to maintain my platelet count.
Following three pregnancies close together and a history of irregular cycles, I was looking for a way to balance my hormones and regulate my cycles. One day I saw a testimony for Heart & Soil’s Her Package stating just that. And, having been familiar with beef organ supplements, I decided to give it a try.
As a comparison, I tried several things to help regulate my cycles in the past. I cut back on exercise, increased how much I ate, and tried other supplements. But nothing ever changed, and I knew that my cycle irregularity was not good for my overall health.
My Personal Experience with Heart & Soil
In January 2024, I started the Female Vitality Stack, including Firestarter, Bone Marrow & Liver, and Her Package. Since then, I have had consistent cycles of 35 days every month. It is not to the day, but it has consistently come within 1-3 days of the previous month’s, which for me, is a big improvement.
Since starting the Female Vitality Stack, I have added on the Skin, Hair, & Nails and Mood, Memory, & Brain supplements. In addition to the improvement in my cycles, I feel significantly better than I have on any other supplements. I have so much more energy with these – something that is precious in the throws of motherhood. And with the Mood, Memory, & Brain supplement, I have noticed that I feel much more calm and relaxed throughout the day, whereas on days I forget to take it, I feel more bogged down and tired.
Simply put, I am no doctor, but I am a true believer in these supplements. So much so, that each day I give my kids a capsule in their apple sauce or yogurt and they love it! They tend to be pretty adventurous eaters, but I think liver would be a bit of a stretch for them. So I am glad that I have an easy way to ensure they are getting the nutritional benefits from liver without having to fight them on it.
Are They Right for You?
All in all, this has been my experience with taking Heart & Soil supplements. And like many of the things I talk about on Ladenbod, I encourage you to do your own research. But I have seen a lot of reviews and testimonies from people talking about how including these supplements into their diets and switching to an Animal Based way of eating has done wonders for their overall health. I am sure some may be skeptical, especially coming from a standard medical background. But what I love is that these supplements are natural and real food. They are not created in a lab, and because of that, my body can efficiently absorb them unlike other multivitamins.
I hope this review can offer you some insight into including organ supplements in your diet, and if you are interested in giving Heart & Soil a try, check out this link.
